Richard Frederick Krost

February 23, 1922 ~ September 27, 2019 (age 97)


Richard F. Krost, age 97 of Faribault, MN passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault.  Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home of Faribault.

Richard Frederick, the son of Robert and Irene (Smith) Krost, was born on February 23, 1922 in Mankato, MN.  He graduated from Loyola Catholic High School in Mankato and attended the University of St. Thomas.  Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years overseas during WWII as an Avenger pilot.  He continued his service time as active Naval Reserve for 26 years retiring in 1982 as a Commander.  He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Goodell on October 25, 1952 in Clear Lake, Iowa.  For 35 years Richard worked at Wenger Corporation in Owatonna, MN in sales, mostly of large equipment with universities. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Krost of Faribault; daughters, Mary Ellen Mafilios (Emanuel) of Westport, CT, and Kathleen Hawkins (Steven) of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Hawkins, Sean Hawkins, Madeline Mafilios, and Sophie Mafilios; great grandchildren, Lauren Hawkins and Allison Hawkins; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Irene; and sister, Barbara Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Bethlehem Academy, or Allina Hospice in memory of Richard.
