Shirley Marie was born on July 21, 1931 in Faribault to Frank and Cecelia (Forcelle) Simmons.  She was united in marriage to Albert DeCoux on November 18, 1947 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault.  Shirley worked for 23 years at the Faribault Regional Center, helped her husband on their farm, and raised their children.  She was a spunky, organized, and regimented person, always keeping her regular weekly hair appointment.  Shirley was a caretaker for many, caring for her husband and her mother during their final years of their lives.  She was an avid collector.  She collected dinner bells, snow globes, cups and saucers, plates, and dolls.  Many things she collected when she and Al would travel. Shirley and Al enjoyed playing cards with family and friends or traveling to the casino for a little gambling entertainment.  Albert preceded her in death on January 15, 2007.  Family was of great importance to Shirley, cherishing their gatherings together.

Shirley is survived by three children, Ronald (Sandra) DeCoux of River Falls, WI, Roger (Frances) DeCoux of Austin, TX, and Larry DeCoux of Faribault; son-in-law, Cliff Johnson of Aitkin, MN; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents, Frank and Cecelia; son in infancy, Bruce Joseph DeCoux; daughter, Karen Johnson; daughter-in-law, Jane DeCoux; sister, Mary Louise (Kenneth) Southworth; and brother, Robert (Elaine) Simmons.

A special thank you to the staff of Brighton Hospice and Mill City Senior Living for the compassionate care they provided.

Any memorials given will be directed to Shirley’s favorite charities.
