William Thomas, the son of Daniel and Colleen Dietz, was born on October 14, 1947 in New Prague, Minnesota, where he grew up on his family’s dairy farm.
He graduated from New Prague High School with the class of 1965. Bill then attended Mankato State University, where he met Carol, the love of his life. The two were married on September 20, 1968. The following year, they welcomed their first son, Michael. In 1970, they moved to Faribault, where Bill owned and operated a service station. In 1972, Bill and Carol completed their family of four with the addition of Martin, their second son.
A devoted and hardworking man, Bill was a line mechanic at Crown Cork & Seal for 33 years. Although he worked endless hours, he made time for road trips with his wife and boys, and enjoyed duck and goose hunting with his sons and brothers in the Fall.
He retired in 2009, allowing more time to spend with his wife, family and friends. He loved the peacefulness of the outdoors. In Northern Minnesota, he enjoyed vacations with family, where he could relax, fish, and take in the scenery.
Bill and Carol developed an ongoing love for gardening. Bill had a knack for caring for plants and flowers, and his favorite was the Orchid, which represents love, beauty, and strength. The couple shared over fifty beautiful years together.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Dietz; sons, Mike (Cindy) Dietz of Chanhassen, MN, and Marty Dietz of Albertville, MN; grandsons, Jade and Parker; brothers, Dick (Cheryl) Dietz of Montgomery, MN, Doug (Charlene) Dietz of New Prague, MN, and Al (Laurie) Dietz of New Prague, MN; nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.
