Bernard Haag

Bernard Ingram Haag, age 87, lifelong resident of Waseca went to heaven on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home in Waseca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:30am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Father Gregory Leif officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 5:00 - 8:00pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:30pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Endowment Fund, Waseca, MN, or to the sisters of St. Francis Director of Director of Development Assisi Heights, 1004 14th Street N.W. Suite 100, Rochester, MN. Arrangements are with the McRaith Funeral Home in Waseca.

Bernard Haag was born in Waseca, MN on October 21, 1928, to Charles and Frances (Harguth) Haag. He attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School in Waseca. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950, during the Korean War, spending much of this time in Guam and Japan. He was honorably discharged on December 2, 1954. A 1957 graduate of Mankato State Teacher's College, he was employed at E.F. Johnson Company in Waseca for 33 years, working in marketing in the Components Division. He retired in 1991.

He was united in marriage to Kathleen "Kit" Cunningham at the Church of St. Albert the Great, in Minneapolis, MN on January 14, 1967. They lived their entire married life in Waseca and raised their family there.

Bernard was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Knights of Columbus. He was involved on the boards of various youth sports organizations. Bernard enjoyed playing pool in his younger years and later at the Waseca Senior Center. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching football, basketball and other sports. He especially enjoyed and encouraged his four children and ten grandchildren as they engaged in various activities, sports and academics.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, and children: Christine (Michael) Good, Chaska, MN; Kathleen (Robert Kirk) Haag, Silver Spring, MD; Charles (Laura) Haag, University Park, TX; and Joseph (Ronda Gieryn) Haag, Los Altos, CA; by grandchildren: Evan and Emily Good; Rory, Quinn and Clare Kirk; Lindsey, Chloe, and Spencer Haag; and Liam and Henry Haag. He is also survived by two sisters: Sister Barbara Haag, Mankato, MN and Sister Helen Haag, Rochester, MN, brother-in-law Frank Higgins, Homewood, IL, and sister-in-law Eileen Harbaugh, Billings, MT as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, brother William and his wife Agnes, Mankato, MN; by his sister Joan Haag Higgins, Homewood, IL; also sister-in-law Josephine Huppert and her husband Fred, Billings, MT.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Lake Shore Inn and Mayo Clinic Hospice - Mankato for the special care that Bernard received.
