Eugene Benzick

Eugene C. Benzick, age 88, of Faribault, died Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the District One Hospital in Faribault following an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 10:30 am at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Organization.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to services.

Eugene Conrad Benzick was born on March 20, 1928 in Kilkenny, MN and was raised by his parents Mary (Benzick) and Ambrose Moriarity Sr. Eugene served in the U.S. Army during Korean War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars for his service. On August 29, 1959 he was united in marriage to Josephine Gruber in Faribault, MN. Eugene worked for over 30 years at the Faribault Regional Center as a custodian and in the maintenance department retiring in 1990. In retirement he worked as a delivery driver for Dusek's Bakery in Faribault. He was a NRA Life Member and a former member of the VFW Post 1562 in Faribault.

He is survived by his five children, Paul (Maria) Benzick, Tom (Kay) Benzick, Joanne (Jeff) Spitzack, Jim Benzick and Matt (Cheryl) Benzick; by grandchildren, Alyssa and Hannah Benzick, Nicole (Raul) Dominguez, Michelle Benzick (Anthony Putratz), Jarett Spitzack, Jayton Spitzack and Alesha Benzick; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Raul Jr. and Rafael; brothers, Ambrose Moriarity Jr. and Al (Carol) Moriarity; by brothers-in-law, Leonard (Muriel) Gruber and Harry Gruber and by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Josephine on Jan. 31, 2017, three brothers, Anthony, Francis and Richard and his sister, Maryann.
