Gerald Sammon

Gerald F. "Jerry" Sammon, age 85 of Faribault, MN, died on Monday, December 25, 2017 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, MN following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault, with the Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.

Gerald Francis, the only child of Earl and Leona (Bertram) Sammon, was born on March 1, 1932 in Faribault, MN. He attended Faribault Senior High School and graduated with the class of 1951 and was employed with Northern States Power Company for 37 years, retiring in 1991. On October 14, 1951 he was united in marriage to Diane Ollhoff. From this marriage they would have three sons and a daughter. Diane preceded him in death on January 30, 1974. Jerry then married Evelyn (Van Orsow) Devaney on December 5, 1974.

Jerry enjoyed most sports, especially golf, basketball and attending Viking games for years. There is a sign in Jerry and Evelyn's garage saying "We have a ball at our house, basketball, baseball, football and golf." He most enjoyed discussing the game results with his boys the next day. He was also always proud of his Irish heritage.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn Sammon of Faribault, MN; by three sons, Michael T. Sammon (special friend Trudy) of Faribault, MN, Patrick (Debbie) Sammon of St. Michael, MN and Mark (Rebecca) Sammon of Lakewood, CO; by six grandchildren, Zachary, Emily and Eli of Colorado, Ashley of St. Michael, MN, Jeremy Grohman of Faribault, MN and Jacob (Becky) Grohman of Burnsville, MN; by three great grandchildren, Lily and Grady Grohman (Jeremy) of Northfield, MN and Austin Grohman (Jacob) of Burnsville, MN and by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Diane and daughter Laurie.
