Alvin Flemming

February 29, 1928 — December 17, 2008

Alvin B. Flemming, age 80 of Janesville, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family.             Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Smiths Mill with Rev. Keith Bilitz officiating. Interment will be in the Smiths Mill Cemetery.             Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services, at church.             Alvin Bernard was born on February 29, 1928 to Arthur and Esther (Stiernagle) Flemming in McPherson Township, Blue Earth County. He attended St. Clair High School, graduating in 1946. Alvin served his country in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1951. On September 2, 1956 he was united in marriage to Adeline Fellows at St. John's Episcopal Church in Janesville. Alvin lived and farmed in the Smiths Mill area his entire life. He was very active in LeRay Township, hauling gravel and grading roads for many years. He also served on the LeRay Township Board, the Minnesota State Association of Townships, and the Smiths Mill Cemetery Board. Alvin held various church offices at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Smiths Mill, and was a longtime member of the Janesville American Legion. He enjoyed his John Deere tractor collection, playing cards, fishing, and old time music. Alvin treasured time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.             He is survived by his wife, Adeline; by his sons Mike (Jane), Dale (Staci), all of Janesville, and his daughter Marilyn (Guy) Westphal of Eagan; by his seven grandchildren; his sister Ruth (Clarence) Youngerberg of Brainerd and his brother Lyle Flemming of Janesville; his sister-in-law Letty Fellows of Eagle Lake, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.              He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Albert at infancy, and Lester (Lorene).             Casketbearers are: Russ Anderson, Jerry Thornton, Gary Mittelsteadt, Chris Schmidt, Darrell Andregg, and Gary Von Holtum.
