Andrew Allan Story

June 20, 1930 — March 8, 2026

Andrew Allan Story was born June 20, 1930, in the farmhouse where he lived his entire life. He died peacefully in the same house on March 8, 2026, surrounded by his family. The youngest of four children, he stayed on the farm, which was homesteaded in 1857 by his great-grandfather, Enoch Story. Allan graduated from Faribault High School in 1948. He was united in marriage to Jane Tyler Lanier on February 16, 1958, at First Lutheran Church in Kenyon. They raised five children on the family farm west of Kenyon.

Having raised various crops and animals over the years, Allan started a dairy operation with his oldest son Douglas in 1974. Douglas expanded the operation, known as Fairview Dairy, in 1999.

Allan’s interests extended far beyond the farm’s fences. He was an avid photographer and traveler. He and his wife Jane loved to take car trips around the United States. He traveled around the world with his sisters, children, nephews and friends. Allan was fascinated by the world’s diverse geology and animal life. His sense of humor, stamina and easy-going demeanor made him an excellent travel companion.

He was always ready for the next adventure but as one of his favorite Frank Sinatra songs goes, “It’s nice to go traveling but it’s nice to come home.” Once home, he was always occupied with projects around the farm and socializing with his friends, many of whom preceded him in death.

Allan was a renaissance man of sorts, with a great appreciation for everything from the arts to engineering. He had exceptional mechanical abilities and an intense interest in aviation. He was also an animal lover.

Allan was a devoted member of his community, having been a member of Lion’s Club and President of the Kenyon Arts Council. For many years when it produced annual summer plays, he served as photographer and videographer. He also volunteered to video Kenyon City Council meetings.

Despite claiming no Norwegian heritage, Allan was invited by his friends to join Sons of Norway. He found great pleasure in socializing and going on trips with the group to various cultural sites.

Allan was a classical musical enthusiast, who regularly attended Minnesota Orchestra Concerts and travelled to various classical music events.

He is preceded in death by his wife Jane (Lanier) Story; his parents, Andrew Howard Story and Lydia (Bultman) Story; sisters Helen Lucille Story, Ruth Elaine Brodd, brother-in-law Ole Brodd; brother Albion Burnham Story; sister-in-law Sandra Story; son-in-law Lee Glamm; nephew Howard Story, and niece Marie Story Feldman.

He is survived by his five children: Douglas (Barbara) of Kenyon; Thomas (Nancy) of Kenyon; Craig of Cape Coral, FL; Carolyn of Orcas Island, WA; and David (Jacob Kuriakose) of Washington, D.C; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

We like to think of him driving his red 1952 Pontiac convertible with the top down into the sunset with his wife Jane.

A celebration of life will be held at Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault, on Saturday, March 21 at 2 p.m., with visitation beginning at Noon. Lunch will be served afterward.
