August G. “Gus” Winkle, age 70 of McGregor, MN and formerly of Faribault, MN passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020, surrounded by his family, following a short illness.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

August George, the son of Lyle and Malinda (Lindy) (Lowenberg) Winkle was born on November 29, 1949 in Fairmont, MN.  He attended Fairmont High School and graduated in 1968.  On July 27, 1968 he was united in marriage to Cindy Hatch.  Together they raised their two daughters, Amy and Dawn.  They were married for 27 years and later divorced.  Gus attended college at Mankato State University and worked many jobs to support his family.  In 1991 Gus began a successful career in the printing business operating three different print shops.  Two Minuteman Press stores in St. Paul, MN and Midland Press in White Bear Lake, MN.  In 2004 Gus retired and sold his businesses.  He loved spending time up at his cabin on Big Sandy Lake near McGregor, MN and had recently purchased a new house that he was very excited about.  He enjoyed the summers up north sitting on the deck watching the activity on the lake and spending the winters in Arizona.  On August 30, 2004 he was united in marriage to Mary Coffman and they had 10 wonderful years together. Mary passed away on Sept. 13, 2014.  Gus loved spending time with his family and friends and also loved to shoot pool.

He is survived by his daughters, Amy (Bob) Gedicke of Faribault and their children, Corbin and Dyson Gedicke and Dawn (Ethan) McDaniel of Faribault and their children, Logan and Lucas McDaniel; by his former spouse, Cindy Winkle of Eagan, MN; by his nephew, Allen Adams; by his niece, Lenae Cartwright  and by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Lindy; wife, Mary; and sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and LeRoy Adams.
