Bruce Addison Shaffer, age 85 of Faribault, MN passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Born December 1, 1939 to John Shaffer and Gladys (Oppegard) Shaffer. A Bethlehem Academy graduate, Class of ’58, Mankato State University, and served in the National Guard.
Married Carolyn Johnson on November 26, 1966 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Faribault.
As owner of Shaffer’s Fair Bowl Lanes, Bruce organized the first bowling activities for residents of the Regional Center. Later worked for Western Oil, Continental Oil, R. J. Steichen Investments, Landmark Agency Insurance, and Harry Brown’s.
Lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church/Divine Mercy, Knights of Columbus, and the Eagles.
Bruce was an avid volunteer with different organizations including: Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Charities Senior Friendship Program, Road to Recovery transporting cancer patients for treatment, St. Vincent DePaul, and 25 years working the Faribault Community Thanksgiving dinner.
Bruce was a Board member of Catholic Charities, Habitat for Humanity, and Buckham West Senior Center.
Honors that he received include Sertoma Club – Service to Mankind Award and The Faribault Daily News – 2015 Unsung Hero.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn. Children, Steven (Julie) of Cottage Grove, MN, Stefanie of Hudson, WI and Anne Meyer (Bruce) of Faribault, MN. His grandchildren, Houston (Allie), Madison and Sydney Shaffer, and Skylar Meyer. Sister-in-laws, Anita Faye Daby (Larry), Jeanette Rehkamp, Debra Schmitz (Harold), and other relatives and friends.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Shaffer, sister, Diane Schimanski, Mother and Father-in-law, Amelia and Audrey (Ray) Johnson. Brother-in-laws, Frank Schimanski and Jack Rehkamp.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault, MN with the Most Reverend Kevin Kenney, officiating. Interment will be held at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday morning for one hour prior to services.
The Family prefers that memorials be directed to Buckham West Senior Center or the Divine Mercy School Building Fund in memory of Bruce.
