Charles "Charlie" Orville Spoor

Charles “Charlie” Spoor, age 89, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

Charles Orville, the son of Basiel and Ethel (Merrit) Spoor was born on August 1, 1933 in Janesville, MN.  Charlie grew up on their family farms and attended many country schools as their family moved.  The last school he attended was Montgomery High School.  In 1955 he began his service with the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne Co. C. 503rd Division.  He spent one year in Germany as a sharpshooter and received the Expert Bar for his accuracy.  He was honorably discharged in 1957.  After his discharge from the service he lived on a hobby farm near Shieldsville, MN. During that time he also worked at McQuay’s in Faribault.  Later he would work for a number of years for Menasha Corp. in Lakeville and retired as a Precision Inspector from Sheldahl in Northfield after 22 years.  In retirement he worked part-time at Nelson’s Grocery store and Genova.  

After 30 years with his first wife, he married Elizabeth “Elsie” (Trnka) Brezina on July 6, 1991 in Las Vegas and moved to Faribault.  Together they enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards and most of all enjoyed riding and driving horses.  Charlie and Elsie drove horses and a four wheel buggy in many train wagons for over 20 years for different organizations including, Camp Courage, Sheriff’s Posse, Make A Wish, Good Hope and many parade’s for charity for handicapped children.  He was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion Post 43, both in Faribault.

Charlie had one son from his first marriage, John Spoor of Waterville, MN and two daughters, Connie (Doug) Frederick of Roseville, CA and Roxanne (Al) Velishek of Montgomery, MN.  He has nine step children from his marriage to Elizabeth. Mike (Lisa) Brezina of Cloverdale, IN, Tom (Barb) Brezina of Veseli, MN, Steve (Dorinda) Brezina of Anchorage, AK, Ed (LeAnn) Brezina of Northfield, MN, John (Michelle) Brezina of Denver, CO, JoAnn (Greg) Varney of Northfield, MN, Linda (Richard) Sirek of Webster, MN and Nancy (Al Trujilla) Brezina of Woodbury, MN; by 26 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, by his grandson, Kevin McDaniels, step daughter, Sue Brezina and by four sisters, Blanche Heil, June Martin, Betty Kuntze and Irene Jakes.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home with Rev. Matthew Lane officiating.  Interment will be held at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Organization.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
