Dale J. Silkey

Dale J. Silkey, age 90 of Faribault, MN passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Birchwood Cottages in Owatonna, MN following an extended illness.

Dale Joseph, the son of Joseph and Emma (Duchene) Silkey, was born on April 26, 1934 in Faribault, MN. He attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1952. After high school, Dale began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and then was called to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he spent most of his time patrolling along the DMZ. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to his job at the telephone company where he worked for over 40 years in different jobs including, lineman construction, underground manhole work, installation and finished his career servicing pay phones. Dale also served as the Union President for over 5 years for the telephone company. On May 19, 1962 he was united in marriage to Janet LaCanne at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Dale and Janet would take their family on many road trips over the years to explore the United States and a good part of Canada. They would visit many National Parks along the way. Later in life they would take trips to Florida to visit family. Dale loved being outdoors and enjoyed many outdoor activities including deer hunting, elk hunting, bear hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet Silkey of Faribault, MN; by his daughters, Lisa (David) Risch of Owatonna, MN and Beverly (Tom) Klemer of Faribault, MN; by four grandchildren, Ashley Klemer and fiancé Luke Skrove, Tess (Kaleb) Dahl and their children, Emma, Henry and Olivia; Benjamin Klemer and Zachary (Anna) Klemer and their children, Jonathan and Gabriel, and by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Linda Silkey, his sister, Lorraine (Donald) Siegfried and nephew Wayne Siegfried.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault with Bernadette Tatge, Pastoral Minister at Divine Mercy Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault at a later date.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
