Daniel W. Hurd, age 70 of Faribault, MN passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at the Emeralds at St. Paul in St. Paul, MN after a 3-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
Daniel Ward, the son of Joshua and Margaret (Ward) Hurd, was born on June 14, 1955 in Santa Barbara, CA. He graduated from Elk Grove High School then worked 12-years for the family business, Round Table Pizza. Dan spoke fondly of his childhood, praising his nurturing mother, and kind father. Dan cherished the memories he and his three brothers made while growing in a farmhouse in Sacramento, and the time they spent in Alaska and Central America with the family’s Aerial Photography business. After moving to Faribault, MN, he worked as a truck-driver, Hy-Vee Grocery, Mystic Lake Casino, and then retired from the Minnesota Department of Corrections. He had an energetic personality and loved to ride bicycle, both long-distances and even during the winter. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed woodworking, painting, building and flying RC planes, and doing puzzles. He especially loved spending time with his nieces and great nieces and nephew and found much joy in showering them with gifts.
Daniel is survived by his brothers, Jeffrey Hurd, David (Kellee) Hurd, and Thomas (Elsie) Hurd; nieces, Kristen Hurd and Emily (Mark) Jeno; great nieces and nephew, Niko, Dayja, and Ivory.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
