Daniel Lee Milbert, age 72, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at his home following an extended illness.
Born in Minneapolis to Donald D.J. Milbert and Gladys (Annie) Olson Milbert. He was raised was raised in Hopkins, Minnesota and graduated from Hopkins Eisenhower High in 1971. Then graduated with a biology degree at Winona State University.
Dan displayed a talent for art as a child. He later integrated his love of nature with this talent and in 1980 began his career as a painter of birds, landscapes and portraiture. His art and work in conservation won awards around the U.S. On December 16, 1981, he married Mary Tripp (formerly of Minneapolis). Together they traveled to art shows and wildlife events such as the Sandihill Crane migration on the Platt River, NE.
But Dan was more than an artist he was a renaissance man. He was also a writer, an adventurer, a philosopher, an intellectual searcher of Truth (yes, with a capital ‘T’). He loved long distance bike riding and rugged hiking which he did in Alaska and other wilderness venues across the U.S.
Dan is survived by his wife Mary, a son, March Walker of West Virginia, as well as siblings Cathy Brantner of Duluth, Guy Milbert (Jill) Minnetonka, John (Kim) of Farmington, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault.
