David Herda

David G. Herda, age 64, of Faribault died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at his home following an extended illness.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, at Immaculate Conception in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale with military honors provided by the Lonsdale American Legion.   Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services.   David George Herda, the son of Frank and Julia (Malecha) Herda, was born on July 2, 1944 in Northfield, MN. He attended New Prague High School. After high school Dave served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge Dave began a 30 year career with the Ford Motor Co. in St. Paul, MN, retiring in 1995. On July 23, 1966 he was united in marriage to Joan DuPay at the Church of the Annunciation in Hazelwood, MN. Dave and Joan lived in New Prague, MN from 1977 to 1996 when they moved to Faribault. Dave was a member of the Lonsdale American Legion, the Knights of Columbus Council 889 in Faribault and the UAW #879. In retirement Dave and Joan wintered in Texas for many years. Dave enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting with family and friends. Dave was an excellent cook and baker and was always anxious to plant his garden in the spring. Dave especially loved to golf and also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, boating and camping.   He is survived by his wife Joan Herda of Faribault; by three children, Ann (Steven) Kajer of New Prague, MN, David M. (Cristel) Herda of New Prague, MN and Ronald (Kelly) Herda of Lonsdale, MN; by ten grandchildren, Abbey, Spencer and Simon Kajer, David, Emily and Olivia Herda, and Hannah, Gretchen, Sarah and Mara Herda; by seven siblings, Donna (Jim) Degrood of Eagan, MN, Charlotte (Bill) Borwege of Faribault, Pat (Myron) Hrabe of New Prague, MN, Francis "Fritz" (Maryann) Herda, Maynard (Bonnie) Herda and Tom Herda and special friend Sharon Spartz, all of Lonsdale, MN and Carol (Jerry) LeMieux of Faribault and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents.
