Dorothy A. Morgan

May 26, 1928 — December 26, 2025

Faribault

Dorothy A. Morgan, age 97 of Faribault, MN formerly of Morristown, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025 at her home at Milestone Assisted Living in Faribault surrounded by family.

Dorothy Ann Bakken was born May 26, 1928 to Alfred and Mable (Haarstad) Bakken, at Rushford, MN. Dorothy graduated from Kasson High School in 1946. She went to teachers’ college at Mankato State and graduated 1948. She taught country school for two years, while teaching at District #42 Skogen School in Deerfield Township, Steele County, and her first Christmas program attracted an especially large audience of uncles and older brothers, drawn by the presence of a young, single, and charming teacher. It was at this event that she met Donald Morgan.

On August 16, 1950 Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Morgan at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Deerfield Township. Don was the love of her life, together they farmed, raised their 7 children, traveled and went dancing. They started Morgan’s Farm Service in 1960, where Dorothy worked alongside Don in the family business; she managed the bookwork and even blended fertilizer. She enjoyed hosting gatherings and held large parties for their fertilizer and chemical customers. Dorothy truly enjoyed being with people.

Dorothy loved her family most of all; they were her pride and joy, and she delighted in listing each of their names in order (the 7 D’s). Her family of seven grew to 84, and she cherished every one of them. She found her greatest happiness in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family especially enjoyed Grandma’s cutout cookies, which she made for every holiday. Dorothy was very proud of her Norwegian heritage; she traveled to Norway twice visiting family farms. She loved sewing and created many quilts and baby blankets. Dorothy was an avid gardener and was especially proud of her flower garden. She was a fierce Parcheesi opponent and always ready to play. She lived to dance, taking every opportunity to do so. A passion she passed on to her family. She rode snowmobiles up to the age of 94. Dorothy also treasured time spent at the family cabin on Horseshoe Lake in Merrifield, MN, creating many cherished memories with her entire family.

Dorothy’s strong faith was a source of great strength throughout her life and was evident in her gentle spirit.

Home for the past 15 years was Milestone Assisted Living. She greeted everyone she met and was known for her warm smile and kindness. She always had a kind word for the caregivers and staff and deeply appreciated the loving care she received.

She was a 50+ year’s member in the Court St. Anne #1840 Catholic Daughters and she was a member of the Corpus Christi Council of Catholic Women.

She is survived by seven children Diane (Aldon) Sammon of Faribault, Donna (Mark) Ihlenfeld of Owatonna, Dennis (Deb) Morgan of Morristown, Dawn (Larry) Conrad of Dundas, Douglas Morgan of Medford, Daniel (Donna) Morgan of Morristown and Darla (Jeff) Kosanda of Faribault; by 20 grandchildren, Jason (Brenda) Sammon, Steven Sammon, Seth (Nicole) Ihlenfeld, Eric Ihlenfeld, Wade (Mariah) Ihenfeld and Ethan Ihlenfeld, Jessica (Jake) Wolters, Dustin (Mandy) Morgan, Randi (Pat) McCabe, Cody (Jessica) Morgan, Adam (Alyssa) Conrad, Angela (Robert) Babcock, Ashley (Matt) Dompierre, Tyler (Alexandria) Morgan, Chelsea (Chase) Boehne, Nicole (Christopher) Mulert, Danielle Morgan, Blake (Rachel) Kosanda, Allison (Jeremy) Kasper, and Kayce (Cody) Flowers. She has 34 great grandchildren.

Survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law; Donald & Avonne Bakken, David & Karen Bakken, sister- in-law Shirley Bakken, brother-in-law Arvid Boyum and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Donald in 2012; an infant son; three great grandchildren, Josephine Sammon, Jonah and Isaiah Mulert; by her parents, five sisters and two brothers.

Dorothy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Milestone Assisted Living in Faribault for the exceptional care and love they provided, and to Brighton Hospice for their compassionate services
