Gordon “Gordy” P. Hunt, age 84, of Faribault, MN passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following a brief illness.
Gordon Phillip, the son of Edward and Myrtle (Karow) Hunt was born on January 1, 1938 in Faribault. He attended Faribault Senior High School and graduated with the class of 1956. Gordy was an outstanding athlete on all of the teams for which he played. On September 29, 1956 he was united in marriage to Eileen Sammon at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Eileen preceded him in death on April 17, 2002. At a young age Gordy began working with his Dad at the family business and every year took on more responsibility. Gordy worked for over 65 years with Hunt Produce Company and formed many friendships over the years.
Gordy was the founder of the Faribault Traveling Basketball Association, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, was a past president of the church council and a eucharistic minister. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren at their different sporting events.
He is survived by his children, Diane Hunt of Morrisville, NC, Julie Duxbury of Stillwater, MN and Mark (Tracy) Hunt of Faribault; by five grandchildren, Ryan Duxbury, Andrew Duxbury, Abby Hunt, T.J. Hunt and Ellie Hunt; by his special friend, Joyce Zimmerman and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eileen, his son, David Gordon Hunt, his son-in-law, Mark Duxbury, his sister, Marion Schuenke and by his three brothers, Eugene, Ralph and Howard Hunt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault, with Fr. Cory Rohlfing officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault. Following the interment, a reception will be held at the Faribault Golf Club, 1700 17th St. NW, Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to services.
