James M. “Jim” Weires, age 86 of Green Bay, WI and formerly of Faribault, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Tender Hearts Assisted Living in Green Bay, WI. He was surrounded by family as well as care and comfort, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
James Mathew, the son of Martin and Cordelia (Thibodeau) Weires, was born on September 11, 1938 in Faribault, MN. He attended Ellsworth High School in Ellsworth, WI and graduated with the class of 1956 and then attended college in Wisconsin. Jim was united in marriage to Donna Cross on March 18, 1970 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Donna preceded him in death on October 6, 1996. Jim owned and operated The Curve Bar in Faribault for nine years and then worked for 22 years at Land O Lakes in Faribault. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in fishing, hunting and golfing. He also loved playing cards with family and friends, especially cribbage and poker. Jim was one of the top cribbage players in the world and had a lifetime invitation to The Grand National Cribbage Tournament. Whether outdoors or around the card table, Jim cherished time with his loved ones. He never missed his boys sport games, he loved watching and cheering them on. Above all, his greatest joy came from making memories with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Jim was a kind and gentle man that will be known for his deep compassion for others.
He is survived by his sons, Martin (Joy) Weires of Green Bay, WI and their children, Dylan, Cole, Payton and Kailey; Matthew (Becky) Weires of Chaska, MN and children, Sydney, Seth (Leah) and their son, Jameson, and Shelby; Stephen (Vanessa) Becker of Wahiawa, HI and their children, Stephen Jr. and Ingrid; by his sister, Belva Finnegan of Faribault, MN and by other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Joanie Weires and brother-in-law, Jim Finnegan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault with Fr. Cory Rohlfing officiating. Interment will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
