Lawrence G. Borst Sr, age 89, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN.
Lawrence George, the son of George and Georgia (Swanson) Borst, was born on December 14, 1935, in Faribault. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 - 1957. Following his term in the military, Larry attended technical college for tool and die. He was a sheet metal worker and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 480 (SMWIA). He was very active in the Union and had served as president. He was a machinist at 3M Corp., McQuay’s International (Daikin), then for most of his career at Crown Cork & Seal in Faribault. He was united in marriage to Janice Caron on November 22, 1980, in Faribault. Larry was a very active person. He was a dedicated volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul, and Divine Mercy Church, and received the Rice County Fair Outstanding Senior Volunteer in 2021. Larry enjoyed golfing, bowling, horseshoes, making stained glass creations, steppingstones, and birdhouses for his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with his family.
He is survived by his children, Teresa Ennis (Cliff), Larry Borst Jr. (Michele), Michael Borst (Connie), Carmen Breyer (Richard), and Sharon Schuman (Richard); step-children, Connie Gersemehl (Bob), Cheryl Moriarity (Mark), Randy Heil, and Karlene Bleninger (Kerry); 25 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; siblings, Nadine Schuman, Marlene Hanek, Rosemary Schuman (Dave), Jim Borst, and Cindy Zelmer (Dave); many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice on May 11, 2012; parents, George and Georgia; step-son, Gregory Heil; step-daugther, Shelly Winter; brother, Richard Borst; and former spouses, Barbara (Orange), and Marilyn (Dupont).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Memorials may be directed to St. Vincent de Paul in memory of Larry.
