Mark D. Sapp, age 54 of Hahira, GA and formerly of Cottage Grove, MN passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N. in Faribault with Pastor Greg Ciesluk officiating. Interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations in Marks name to a local humane society or the Disabled American Veterans Foundation.
Mark Daniel, the son of Wallace Sr. and Emma (Muth) Sapp, was born on August 13, 1964 in Cottage Grove, MN. He attended Park Heights High School and graduated with the class of 1984. Following high school Mark served in the U.S. Army and after his discharge served in the Army National Guard. He was called back to serve during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mark loved being a soldier and was an excellent marksman and enjoyed target shooting. He was united in marriage to Colleen Dougherty in 1985 and they later divorced in 1990. Later he married Traci Schweisthal on Dec. 19, 2005 in Valdosta, GA. Mark worked with his father at PIC, Performance Industrial Coating and also other jobs including being a bartender, tow truck driver and as an over the road trucker. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan, enjoyed going to the casino, playing online poker and going out for dinner with his wife. He was a member of the Cottage Grove Jaycees, the Wounded Warrior Project and the NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Traci Sapp of Hahira, GA; by his sons, Johnathon Sapp of Cottage Grove, MN and Mark D. Sapp Jr. of Coon Rapids, MN; by Traci’s children, Phillip Schweisthal and Sara (Tony) Hoy, all of Waseca, MN and Tyler Schweisthal of Hahira, GA; by 7 grandchildren; by his father, Wallace Sr. and Charlotte Sapp of Cottage Grove, MN; by his siblings, Wallace J. Jr. (Marcia) Sapp of South St. Paul, MN, Paris (Greg) George of Cottage Grove, MN, Kathy Cole of Inver Grove Heights, MN and Kris (Rod) Frank of Cottage Grove, MN; by his mother-in-law, Janice Schweisthal of Faribault and by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Sapp, Aunt Mydean and by his father-in-law, David Schweisthal.
