Mick McDonough, age 81, of Faribault, MN, passed away May 18, 2026, at his home following a brief illness.
Mick was born on March 28, 1945, in Faribault, to Earl “Billy” and Carmen (Rossez) McDonough. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School with the class of 1963. Mick was united in marriage to Sharon Sammon on June 26, 1965, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. He served in the U.S. Army and continued with the Army Reserves for six years. Mick worked for McGough Construction in St. Paul for 13 years and for the next 35 years he worked in various capacities at Met-Con Construction before retiring at age 75. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 43, and the Faribault Moose Lodge. For the past 30 years, Mick and Sharon enjoyed spending their winters in Mesa, AZ. When the kids were young, Mick enjoyed pulling them waterskiing most Sundays on Wells Lake. Mick always enjoyed listening to his 60s classic rock.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon McDonough; daughters, Angie Scheffler (Paul), and Tina Reeder (Drew); seven grandchildren, Josh Scheffler (Megan), Ellen Judd (Tom), Jake Scheffler (Emmie), Thomas Scheffler (Megan), Alex Dworsky, Michaela Klonecki (André), and Anna Geissinger (Justin); nine great grandchildren, Nora and Dean, Ava, Adalyn, Eila and Tess, Sara and Kate, and Clay; siblings, Dick McDonough, and Jean Montgomery; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Carmen; brother, Tom McDonough (Sandy); sister-in-law, Charlotte McDonough; and brother-in-law, Mike Montgomery.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29th, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., Faribault, and on Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
