Phyllis M. Malecha, age 87 of Faribault, MN passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at Faribault Senior Living.
Phyllis Mary, the daughter of Leonard and Margaret (Kitzman) Rost, was born on July 15, 1937 in Northfield, MN. She attended Northfield High School and graduated with the class of 1955. On February 12, 1955 she was united in marriage to James J. Malecha at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Jim preceded her in death on July 27, 2012. After their marriage Phyllis traveled to Germany with Jim and lived there for a year while Jim was serving in the U.S. Army. They would return to Minnesota and live in Faribault. Phyllis stayed at home to raise their growing family and later worked for over 25 years in food service with Sodexo at the Faribault Public Schools. She loved working and being with the kids at school and church and volunteered for many years with vacation bible school and faith formation classes. She was also a Eucharistic Minister at Divine Mercy Catholic Church for many years and was inducted into the Court of Honor at Bethlehem Academy High School. Phyllis loved all holidays and decorating for them was high on her list. She also enjoyed baking and having after school treats ready for everyone. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Corinne) Malecha of Hugo, MN, Sue (Mike) Nasby of Northfield, MN and Shelley (Jon) Klemensen of Faribault, MN; by daughters-in-law, Cindy Malecha of Faribault, MN and Julie Malecha of Colonial Beach, VA; by ten grandchildren, Dan Malecha (Aubrey Tyler), Lauren Malecha, Willy (Ali Jo) Malecha, Jeremiah (Marissa) Malecha, Megan (Scott) Heston, Alex (David) VanMeter, Michael Nasby Jr., Jaclynn Friesen, Gerald Friesen and Matthew Friesen; by eight great grandchildren, Courtney, Kalleigh, Jax, Katie, Jeffrey, Ashley, Silas and Hudson; by her sister, Lenore (Allan) Grinde of Faribault, MN and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, Melanie Malecha and by three sons, Steve, Scott and Jeff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault with Fr. Hjalmar Gudjonsson officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials be directed to the Steve Malecha Scholarship Fund at Bethlehem Academy High School in memory of Phyllis.
Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.
