Regina Morelan

November 26, 1931 — March 4, 2017

Regina "Genie" (McComas) Morelan, age 85, of Faribault, MN passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following a sudden illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Genie (Regina Mae), the daughter of David and Freda (Mater) Gadient was born November 26, 1931. She married Donald McComas on August 1, 1953 and he preceded her in death in 1992. She married Robert Morelan on April 8, 1994 and he preceded her in death in 2010. Genie was originally an elementary school teacher in Pierz and Brainerd, then mentored her seven children, and was a daycare provider for many years.

Genie will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, positivity, cooking and sense of humor. She was an excellent singer from high school through the Sweet Adelines. She was a devoted Catholic, attending Mass daily. Genie enjoyed helping others, being a friend to those in need, and nurturing family.

Genie is survived by seven children, Steven (Cindy) McComas of St. Paul, Therese (Reggie) Durhman, formerly of Hickory, NC, Kevin (Karen) McComas of St. Paul, Dennis (Kris) McComas of Shoreview, Ann (Jim) McComas-Bussa of Shakopee, Thomas (Mary) McComas of Minneapolis, and Jeff (Rebecca) McComas of Woodbury; 18 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Ray (Ruth) Gadient of Red Wing; special friend, Dr. Vincent Paul; along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald, and second husband, Robert; and infant son, Timothy; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Genie was family oriented with a strong faith and was an inspirational role model to her children, grandchildren, and others.
