Rilla A. O'Neil, age 87 of Faribault, MN, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault, with Fr. Kevin Kenney officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers that memorials be directed to Bethlehem Academy High School in memory of Rilla.
Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault, MN.
Rilla was born in 1930 to Timothy and Mary (Gale) Shields in Faribault, MN. Rilla was one of six children. She attended Immaculate Conception Elementary and Bethlehem Academy High School and graduated with the class of 1949. Rilla married Donald R. O'Neil in 1949 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault and they had three children, Karen, Michael and Patrick. Rilla was a lifelong collector of antiques and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She served on the District One Hospital Women's Auxiliary Board; she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Rosary Society; member of the Divine Mercy CCW; served on the Women's Board of the Faribault Golf and Country Club and served as a volunteer of District One Hospital Patient Care Program.
Rilla is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald of Faribault, MN; daughter, Karen (John) Dragsten of Omaha, NE; sons, Michael (Kathy) O'Neil of New Brighton, MN and Patrick (Wendy) O'Neil of Faribault, MN; by three grandchildren, Erick (Julie) Dragsten, Kelly (Joel) Refsnider and Timothy (Tanya) O'Neil; by five great grandchildren, Jacy and Cameron Dragsten, Jackson and Logan Refsnider and Nelson O'Neil and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Eileen Belevrud and Art, Leonard, Donald and Joseph Shields and other special family members.
