Dr. Robert A. "Bob" Stepaniak

Feb 5, 1947 — Jun 13, 2026

Faribault

Dr. Robert A. “Bob” Stepaniak, age 79 of Faribault, MN, died on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his family following an extended illness.

Robert Anthony Stepaniak was born on February 5, 1947 in Minneapolis to Anthony and Marie (Zehnle) Stepaniak as the first born of 7 children. Bob graduated from Mounds View High School before earning his degree from St. Thomas College and continuing his education with both a master's degree and doctorate in education. He devoted his professional life to serving students, schools, and communities, building a distinguished career in education in New Prague, North Branch, and Faribault where he served as superintendent of schools and remained actively involved in the communities he called home.

Bob was a man of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a quick wit that often appeared just when it was needed most. He found joy in life's simple pleasures and in the people he loved. Whether he was reading about World War II, visiting National Parks and Presidential Libraries, casting a fishing line with his dad, brothers, and sons or playing baseball in the senior league, Bob approached life with curiosity, enthusiasm, and an appreciation for the stories that connect us to one another. He loved the lake, a good donut, a piece of chocolate, and could always find something to smile about.

Of all the things Bob enjoyed, nothing brought him greater happiness than his family. He was a much beloved father to three children and then joyfully welcomed five grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to cheer from the sidelines as his grandchildren played sports, no matter the game. He happily accepted his role as a Disney movie enthusiast when grandchildren provided the perfect excuse to watch along. He delighted in sharing his family’s adventures, celebrating their accomplishments, and simply spending time together. His sense of humor, often understated but perfectly timed, made those moments even more memorable.

Above all, Bob loved his wife, Maryalice. Together for 60 years, their relationship was built on devotion, partnership, and enduring love. He was a steady presence, a loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness and character left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, the stories he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the love he gave so freely will remain with us always.
