On August 17, 2025, in Northfield, Minnesota, Roger Harlan Platt completed a life marked by steadfast love, quiet humor, and everyday kindness. He was 83.
Born on April 9, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, to Larry and Sally Platt, Roger graduated from Oneonta High School, where he was well known for his tennis skills. In 1983, he married Anita Louise Moniz-Betencourt, with whom he shared ten years of marriage before her passing. Over a long working life in the auto-parts industry, Roger was known for his positive energy, his ability to talk to anyone, and his contagious smile.
He was most himself in the small moments—telling a joke at exactly the right time, cheering on the Timberwolves (or any basketball game, for that matter), and loving his family. He met the challenges of Parkinson’s with stubborn courage and grace, and even as his world narrowed, his love for his family never dimmed.
Roger is survived by his identical twin, Richard (Arlene) Platt; his children, Jenny (Kyle) Book of Rochester, MN, Jon Platt of Faribault, MN, Felicia (Yefim) Nivoro of McLean, Virginia, and Andrew (Tracy) Platt of Allendale, New Jersey; and his grandchildren Eli, Alaina, Adrian, Daniel, Rachel, and Ryan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anita Louise.
A service will be held on August 19, 2025, at Maple Lawn Cemetery. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Three Links Care Center and Allina Health Hospice for their compassionate care.
Above all, Roger leaves a legacy of gentleness, steady love, and the comfort of knowing that family is everything. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
