Floyd “Tom” Birchfield, age 82 of Faribault, MN passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Mill City Senior Living in Faribault.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date.

Floyd Thomas, the son of Floyd and Dorothy (Pomadt) Birchfield, was born on March 21, 1938 in Faribault, MN. He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1957 and from Rochester Junior College with the class of 1960. Tom served in the Army for 2 years. He worked for 3M for a short time before working for Dyno Nobel for 36 years. He traveled the country while working but settled back in Faribault. He enjoyed spending time in Fort Myers with his 1st wife, Carol, until her passing. He was reunited with his high school sweetheart, Dolly O’Hara, at their 35-year class reunion and they were married on February 14, 2013 in Fort Myers, FL. They were faithful members of the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior, where Tom would regularly contribute $21 in honor of his Grandma Pomadt. While he wasn’t working, Tom enjoyed collecting antiques, including military memorabilia, model airplanes and cars, including a 1962 Split Window Corvette, 1928 Ford Phaeton and a 1984 Targa Porsche. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43 and Post 274 (Fort Myers Beach) and the 328th Last Man’s Club. He also enjoyed doing reenactments in Upstate New York. He had a larger than life personality, loved embellishing witty jokes, telling tales and stories, and was always the life of the party!

Tom is survived by his wife, Dolly Birchfield; daughter, Naomi (John) Pellicone; son, Thomas (Laurie) Birchfield; stepdaughter, Christy (Bobby) Breu; stepson, Paul (Amber) Brown; granddaughters, Amber and Ashley Pellicone; 5 step grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Grandma Pomadt; 1st wife, Carol (Dyer) Birchfield; and stepson, Patrick Brown.

Tom’s family would like to thank the staff of Brighton Hospice and Mill City Senior Living for their loving care of Tom.

Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home and Crematory of Faribault.
