Obituary

Harry C. Gruber Sr., age 87, of Faribault, MN, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN.

Harry Caleb was born on April 6, 1933 in Forest Township, Rice County, MN to Leonard L. Sr. and Margaret (James) Gruber.  He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1951 and later served in the U.S. Navy mostly in the Mediterranean Sea.  Following his military service, Harry was a delivery driver for Dusek’s Bakery and attended Vo-Tech for Tool and Die.  He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Kubovec on September 11, 1965 at Nativity Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN.  They loved their time together, raising their seven children, and living their Catholic faith.  Harry worked for many years at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault as a boiler operator.  He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and bird watching, especially purple martins.  He and Mary Ann made many casino trips to play slot machines.  Harry enjoyed people and the conversations he would have with them.  Most of all, he cherished time with his grandchildren and teasing them often.

He is survived by his seven children, Margaret (Nelson) Fuentes, Harry C. Gruber Jr. (Kim), Joseph B. Gruber, Joshua M. (Mindy) Gruber, Mary Ann Gruber, Adam L. Gruber and Amanda M. Gruber, all of Faribault; by 15 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Muriel) Gruber Jr of Faribault; and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; parents, Leonard Sr. and Margaret; and two sisters, Anne E. Gruber, and Josephine (Eugene) Benzick.
