Robert Willis Jones was born Jan. 16, 1936 in Faribault to Fred C. and Germaine (Payant) Jones.  He was the youngest of five children.  He attended Bethlehem Academy High School and graduated with the class of 1953.  After high school he attended the University of St. Thomas and Mankato State University.  On Dec. 1, 1956 he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Bieter in Faribault.  They moved to Seattle, WA in 1957 to work for Boeing as an expediter for a number of years.  They moved back to Faribault and had four children.  Bob worked at McQuay International for several years.  In 1971 he trained to become a Faribault Police Officer and eventually became a detective.  Jackie preceded him in death on April 15, 1994.  Bob married Suzi (Chapman) Ericson on Jan. 19, 1996 in Faribault.  Bob was a member of the Faribault Police force for 28 years.

Bob “Deacon” Jones, as many people knew him when he worked as a reserve officer at the Congregational Church, the “Congo” a popular teenage dance spot in Faribault.  During his years as a police officer he enjoyed being a marksman, winning the clothespin award.  He was an avid antique collector, as many people remember Grumpy’s Antiques.  As a young man he learned the sport of golf with his mother and went on to become quite an accomplished golfer following in his father and brother Tom’s footsteps.  In July of 2016, Bob and Suzi were blessed when they adopted their “son”, Whiskey Chuck, a quite handsome Jack Russell Terrier, who became the light of their lives.  Therefore, in lieu of flowers we ask that memorials be directed to Rescue 55021 in memory of Bob, who so dearly loved his Whiskey.

For the last three years Bob found himself in ill health and needed special care.  We are so thankful for the love and devotion of Dawn Cabellero, Mary Favro, Mary Stoltz and Lisa Hanson.  Also special thanks and love to nephew Dr. Charlie Jones for his continued love and support in Bobs care.

He is survived by his wife, Suzi Jones of Faribault; by four children, Allyn (Allen) McColley of Faribault, Tom (Ann) Jones of Centerville, MN, Lisa Jones Kennedy and Bill Kennedy of Northeast Minneapolis and John (April) Jones of South St. Paul; by two stepchildren, Tina (Tom) Henry of Hibbing, MN and Kari (Mark) Schreifels of Farmington, MN; by 8 grandchildren, Ian (Julie) McColley, Pat (Dawn) McColley, Caitlin Jones, Daniel (Anna) Jones, Bella Jones, Max Schreifels, Lily Schreifels and Tanaya Henry; by 7 great grandchildren and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jacqueline, his sister, Patricia Moxness and by three brothers, Tom, Richard and Frederick Jones.
